Microsoft: We’ll Upgrade Your PC to Windows 10… Or Give You a New One?

Windows 10In a move that may be making some of us wish we had waited, Microsoft is hoping to convert any stragglers into Windows 10 users by offering same-day upgrades.

What’s so special about that, you ask? Well, for starters, you would get a professional installation of Windows 10, absolutely free. That’s pretty cool when you think about it – not only will you get a free operating system upgrade, but you’ll have someone upgrading your machine for free.

Then there’s always the chance of you getting a free laptop, but that’s only if your device isn’t upgraded by close of business.

That’s right. Microsoft is offering free, same-day upgrades in their Microsoft retail stores that are backed by a free 15” Dell Inspiron laptop in the event that your device isn’t ready by the time they close.

Of course, no deal like this comes without a catch: you must check-in your device to the Answer Desk at participating Microsoft retail stores before 12 noon local time in order to qualify for the free laptop offer.

In the event that your PC is not compatible with Windows 10, Microsoft is willing to recycle it and give you $150 towards a new PC. (The fine print says that the PC must be in relatively good shape, i.e. no liquid damage, cracked screens, voided warranty, and the battery must hold a charge.)

Additionally, folks that upgrade to Windows 10 can also save $20 on Office 365 Home.

July 29th is the last day that users will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. So if you’re going to upgrade, you should probably do it soon.

Will you be taking Microsoft up on their free upgrade offer?
