Antivirus Can Only Do So Much
I came across this ZDNET article this morning discussing whether or not antivirus is necessary. Upon reading it, I thought: “I couldn’t have said it better myself.”
Computer security isn’t just about the software that you run to keep you safe. It’s about thinking about what you do online before you do it.
Customers bring in infected computers all the time, and a good number of them have antivirus software installed on them.
You might be wondering how this happened. There are multiple layers to computer security and antivirus is only one of them.
It’s important that you pay attention to messages when they come up on your screen. Don’t just click “Accept” to every message that comes up, and most importantly, trust your instincts when they tell you something doesn’t seem right. If something seems wrong with a website, or messages keep coming up from the website that you’re on that you haven’t noticed before, get out of there.
Antivirus is one step towards being safe online, but being alert is another very important part.
